AfriCork (Pty) Ltd

AfriCork (Pty) Ltd
is a South African company supplying engineered cork floors to the southern African market.
Not only does Africork offer engineered cork floating floor panels (glueless Uniclic® fixing system) to end-users and retailers but also a complete range of cork products: cork wall tiles, cork floor tiles and cork underlay.

A cork floating floor is an engineered product consisting of panels made up of a compact high density fibreboard (HDF) layer, a bonded surface layer of hard-wearing cork floor covering and a built-in underlay of cork.

The HDF core material is tongued and grooved with a special profile design to allow the panels to be assembled together manually, without the use of glue. This is also commonly known as the click-in system. The edges of each panel are protected by a moisture repellent sealing agent.

Cork floating floors are the perfect answer to your demands for attractiveness, durability, function and price. In addition, it has the following advantages:

• Natural, sustainable and environmentally friendly (cork oak remains the only tree whose bark can    regenerate itself after harvest, leaving the tree unharmed);
• Acoustic qualities – naturally sound absorbing;
• Memory – spongy feel and very comfortable to walk on;
• Water resistant;
• Easy and fast to install;
• Thermal qualities – warm in winter, cool in summer;
• Naturally allergy free;
• Shock resistant.

All of the above make it an ideal floor covering for any residential and light commercial property, bringing natural warmth and comfort to any environment.

The cork floating floors are fully imported from Europe and are produced under ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System. The floors also come with a 10 year and five year warranty for residential and commercial use respectively.

Amorim

Some frequently asked questions:

Question: Can cork actually be walked on?
Answer: Cork has been used as a floor covering for centuries! In fact, Amorim thru its Wicanders Flooring division, has been supplying superior flooring since 1868, and is the world’s oldest and largest manufacturer of cork products in the world.

Question: But is it durable?
Answer: You may be surprised to learn that cork is actually more durable than wood! Take any natural cork wine stopper and try to abrade it with sandpaper, and then abrade a piece of wood with that same sandpaper. The difference? You cannot actually “sand” the cork.

Question: What about impact marks, or damage to the surface by stiletto heels.
Answer: Again we take a wine cork as an example. Open any bottle of wine, remove the cork. What happens? The cork immediately pops out to its original size and circumference, even if it had been in a bottle for 5, 10 or 15 years! Longer even. Cork has a natural memory, and it never loses that memory, even if it had been compressed for a considerable period of time.

Question: Doesn’t cork absorb water?
Answer: No. Cork is totally waterproof. Take that wine stopper again and place it in some water. Watch it float forever, and forever…….and forever! It will never absorb water.

Question: What about fire? Wouldn’t it emit noxious gases when burnt?
Answer: Cork does not burn! Take that cork wine stopper and try to set it alight. Another interesting fact is that cork cannot be destroyed. The only way to destroy cork is by recycling it (grinding it up) and then making more cork products from it – such as sheets of cork (used for gaskets, underlays etc etc)

Question: OK, so it’s durable. But what about dirt and stains?
Our cork floors are pre-sealed at the factory with a ceramic finish which renders the naturally indestructible cork totally impervious to dirt or scuff marks!

Question: How is it installed?
Answer: Our cork floors are available as engineered (floating) panels or, in tile form.
The floating panels click together like laminated floors, and come with a built in cork backing on the underside. They are also available in a wide range of textures and colours.

ECOSTRONG BAMBOO

Bamboo is fast becoming the most popular choice of flooring for architects, interior designers and builders. It is an eco-friendly choice that considers the environment and at the same time is extremely hardwearing and attractive. More and more people are finding out about the seemingly endless benefits of a bamboo floor in both looks and practicality.
Bamboo is allergy free, extremely strong, environmentally friendly and termite resistant. The boards are coated with numerous coats of a very resilient and hardwearing Polyurethane and is UV cured. It is suitable for commercial and high traffic areas.
Bamboo flooring is ideal for refurbishment because it arrives as a finished product already coated so there is no unnecessary mess and dangerous fumes normally associated with onsite sanding and polishing and can be laid over existing flat floor tiles.

Sustainable Bamboo

Forest resources are becoming more and more depleted and the ecological environment is deteriorating. It is becoming imperative that people use renewable timbers. Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource that is self-regenerating and grows to maturity and maximum hardness in approximately 5 years.
About Bamboo

Bamboo is regarded as the strongest growing wood plant on earth. It is technically a grass, not wood and is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates throughout the world. China is the largest source of bamboo worldwide.
Once the bamboo is harvested and processed it is more stable in its resistance to movement caused by moisture and harder than most old-growth forest hardwoods.

Ecostrong offers a range of bamboo products including flooring, decking and furniture board. Our products are sourced from reputable manufacturers, who offer warranties on their products.

Stone Fruit Floors offers a revolutionary new flooring concept.

The floors consist of peach pips that have been laid by hand and sealed with resin and urethane (>10% of content).  The sharp edges of the pips are grinded off to expose the red hue of the pips and to make the floors comfortable and therapeutic to walk on with bare feet. Floors can either be fully installed (seamless) on site or shipped as pre-manufactured tiles which reduce on-site labour requirements.
Peach pips are one of the hardest forms of natural wood and because of the air bubble in the pip; it has very good insulating properties, thus making it one of the best insulated floors on the market.
The floors are water- and slip resistant and are ideally suited for bathrooms & kitchens where problems may occur on ordinary wooden floors due to moist.

The floors are unique, natural and truly South African, providing old world charm without the old world hassle. The pips are a recycled product of the canning and pulping industry.

Stonefruitfloors has also got the patent rights on Hakea which is an alien species in the Western Cape.  By harvesting these we create job opportunities and help with the growth of the natural indigenous Fynbos. Maroela pips can also be used and has been registered.

The chemical content are only 10% of the volume of the complete floor leaving us with a much smaller carbon footprint than all our competitors.

Intellectual property rights are protected through a registered patent, design and trademark.
